Nana’s German Apple Cake

  • 34 cupbutter
  • 1cupsugar
  • 1teaspoonvanilla bean paste
  • 2cupsflour, I use 9oz by weight for this recipe
  • 1teaspoonbaking powder
  • 18 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • 1pinchsalt
  • 1largeegg
  • 1egg yolk
  • 2cupsapples, large dice
  • cinnamon
  • turbinado sugar, Sugar in the Raw

    DIRECTIONS

  • Cream the butter, sugar and vanilla extract.
  • In a seperate bowl mix together the flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients into the mixer with the creamed butter and mix.
  • Add the eggs and mix until everything is fully incorporated.
  • Roll dough into a ball and chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
  • Peaheat oven to 350°F.
  • Put half of dough into a greased and flowered 9 in round baking pan or pie pan and press down to pack.
  • Cover with chopped apples.
  • Cover with the rest of dough and sprinkle with cinnamon and turbinado sugar.
  • Bake for about 50-60 minutes at 350°F or until the top becomes golden brown.
