Naga Munchetty and Jon Kay were the two presenters on BBC Breakfast this morning and they usually have a short chat with Carol whenever she appears on the show to inform viewers of the day’s weather news. Today, Naga asked her a question that revealed a little about Carol’s cooking skills.

Carol presented the weather on today’s BBC Breakfast, before turning back to Jon and Naga in the studio.

Naga thanked Carol and then told her that she and Jon were about to discuss home cooking.

“As the queen of breakfast here, I want to know what your go-to meal would be if I’m popping over,” Naga said.

She added: “What would you whip up?”

Carol did not hesitate to answer the presenter, saying: “It would be pasta, a tin of tomatoes, and some mixed herbs.

“Easy peasy and very yummy,” she added.

Carol looked genuinely serious and smiled at the camera.

However, Jon was quick to joke: “Says Carol hoping that lockdown goes on for even longer.”

Jon mocked Carol’s dish, suggesting that Carol made the choice hoping that Naga would not want to “pop over” if she knew that’s what she would be offered.

Naga also joined in on the joke, saying: “I’ll tell you what, after that recipe, I’m hoping lockdown will go on even longer so I don’t have go round [to her house].”

“The cheek of it,” Carol said.

But the weather presenter was smiling and laughing.

Although simple, pasta mixed with a tomato sauce and herbs tastes good, as well as being a healthy dinner option.

Whole-grain pasta is better for the body than refined pasta as it is high in fibre and contains lower calories.

Eating whole-grain foods has been associated with a lower risk of heart disease, colorectal cancer, diabetes, and obesity, according to Healthline.

Chopped tomatoes with pasta is a good way to add essential vitamins to your diet, as one large tomato is high in vitamin C and potassium.

Tomatoes have even been proven to be good for eye health as the phytochemicals they contain may protect against age-related macular degeneration and other eye diseases.

Additionally, tomatoes contain vitamin K, which may be beneficial in bone health and even helps with blood clotting and wound healing.

Garlic is a good choice of herb to add to the tomatoes to make a delicious sauce, and as well as being highly nutritious, garlic is low in calories.

Carol’s pasta with tomato sauce is therefore a healthy dinner option that is also both quick and easy to make.
