Domino’s Shares Hacks For Keeping Leftover Pizza Crusts Crispy

Beyond not having to deal with unruly and uncooperative dough yourself, the best thing about ordering a pizza is the leftovers that will await you the next day. Maybe it’s because there’s (probably) a strong correlation between hangovers and the consumption of leftover pizza, but there’s a good chance you don’t spend all that much time thinking about what to do with those slices. Hell, some would argue the best thing to do is just grab a slice from the fridge and shove it directly into your mouth.

But if for some reason you’re sick of low quality leftover pizza, a blog post from Domino’s Australia has a few handy reheating hacks that can make your day-after pizza experience a little more palatable.

For starters, they recommend putting a “soggy slice” of pizza into the microwave for thirty seconds with— get this— a half full cup of water. The presence of that moisture should somehow “prevent a soggy slice” but won’t do enough to guarantee crispiness by itself, Domino’s admits.

If you're feeling a bit more creative and aren't living in a college dorm room (which I guess isn’t an issue right now), throwing the pizza in a hot oven does the trick. If you have an air fryer on hand and are looking for another excuse to use that gadget you got for Christmas, that can also give you a “crispy base, fluffy dough and melted cheese.”WATCH: Can This Touchless Pizza Plate Convince People to Dine In?

You shouldn’t just blindly follow advice from Domino’s when it comes to reheating your pizza, though. In speaking with Today, Institute of Culinary Education chef Palak Patel asserts that there’s a better way that combines the best of both major Domino’s methods: heating slices in a pan and then adding some water.

“After you get the bottom nice and crispy, add a few drops of water to the pan and cover it with a lid for about a minute,” Patel told Today. "The thing about pizza is that there are so many different variables. The crust is supposed to be hard, the sauce is supposed to keep the middle nice and textured, and then the cheese and toppings need to be crispy. The stove top achieves that."

So there you have it: the secret to slightly tastier leftover Pizza. Of course, maybe your best option for better leftovers is to support a local pizza shop instead of ordering from Domino’s, but that’s neither here nor there.
