Don’t Feel Like Baking? Make This Oreo Cake in a Mug Instead

If you’ve logged into any of your social media accounts since The Great Shelter In Place began, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve seen someone you know at least attempt to make their own bread from home. While that’s great for aspiring star bakers, getting into the bread game can require more patience and willingness to experiment than some of us have even on these slowest and emptiest of days.

Luckily, the Youths who run TikTok have shown a low-effort way for even the laziest among us to get baking during quarantine. Best of all, you might already have the ingredients you need.

It’s called an Oreo Mug Cake (or an oreo/chocolate lava cake). All you really need is a few Oreos, some milk, maybe some baking powder if you’re feeling fancy, and the toppings of your choice. And it really couldn’t be easier to put together.

In case you prefer to read written instructions, here’s what you need to do. Gather up at least four oreos, though obviously the more you have on hand, the bigger and better your Oreo mug cake will be. Crush those bad boys up into as fine of a dust as you can using a blender or whatever pulverizing method you see fit. @Salt_to_Taste pairs that with three tablespoons of milk, so adjust accordingly based on the number of Oreos in play. Toss in a tiny bit of baking powder if you’d like just to feel like a real baker.

Some preparation methods also suggest that you can crush up the Oreos after adding them to the milk. Softening them first might be easier if you’re going to do that work by hand. The milk to Oreo ratio can also vary a bit depending on who you ask, so just aim for about a tablespoon of milk per Oreo and you’re probably on the right track.

Once your Oreo/milk mixture looks like a fine mud, throw that bad boy in the microwave. Times obviously vary in accordance with microwave wattage and whatnot, but 60 to 90 seconds seems like a good ballpark number to start with. Soon enough, you’ll have yourself a little chocolate cake in a mug that you can adorn with toppings as you see fit. If you’re sick of simply dunking your Oreos into milk, it’s a great way to mix things up without spending a whole afternoon or evening messing around with dough.
