If there’s one type of spirits Brits love, it’s gin. Gin emerged in England after the introduction of the jenever, a Dutch and Belgian liquor which originally had been a medicine, and although this development had been taking place since the early 17th century, gin became widespread after the William of Orange-led 1688 Glorious Revolution. Gin today is produced in subtly different ways, from a wide range of herbal ingredients, giving rise to a number of distinct styles and brands. Although many may just go for a Gin and Tonic, there are plenty of cocktails you can make from gin.
- 50ml gin
- 25ml lemon juice
- 25ml sugar syrup
- 125ml chilled soda water
Put plenty of ice in a Collins glass and pour the liquid in.
Stir gently and garnish with a slice of lemon.
- 50 ml Bathtub Gin
- 15 ml Lime Juice
- 10 ml Passion Fruit Puree
- 15 ml Simple Syrup (2:1)
- 4 Mint Leaves
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, add ice and shake hard.
Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a mint leaf.
- 50ml gin London dry
- 50ml soda water
- 50ml tonic water
- Lime wedge and ice
Put lots of ice in a large glass, add a wedge of lime, then pour over 50ml London dry gin. Top with 50ml soda water and 50ml tonic water.
- 25ml gin
- 25ml sweet vermouth
- 25ml Campari
- Slice of orange
Pour the gin, vermouth and Campari into a mixing glass or jug with ice and stir until the outside of the glass feels cold.
Strain into a tumbler and add one large ice sphere or some fresh ice, and garnish with an orange slice.
Long Island iced tea
- 50ml vanilla vodka
- 50ml London dry gin
- 50ml reposado tequila
- 50ml rum
- 50ml triple sec
- 50-100ml fresh lime juice
- 500ml cola
- 2 limes cut into wedges
Pour vodka, gin, tequila, rum and triple sec into a large jug, and add lime juice to taste.
Fill half the jug with ice, then stir until the outside feels cold.
Add the cola and drop in the lime wedges.
Fill tall glasses with ice and pour the drink. Enough for four glasses.
- 60ml gin
- 1 tbsp dry vermouth
- olive or lemon peel
Stir the gin, dry vermouth and a little ice together.
Strain into a chilled martini glass and serve with an olive on a cocktail stick or a twist of lemon peel.

- 50ml Beefeater Peach & Raspberry
- 50ml lemonade
- Sparkling wine or prosecco
- Fresh thyme
- Slices of fresh peach
- In a wine glass, add the gin and two to three fresh peace slices and stir
- Fill the glass with ice and add the lemonade
- Top with sparking wine and stir
- Garnish with a sprig of thyme and another peach slice. Fresh raspberries go great too!
