Your drive-thru just got A LOT more interesting. McDonald’s Monopoly returns to the UK this week, meaning that your Big Mac doesn’t just come with a side of fries; it comes with the chance to win £100,000, an Ibiza holiday, or even a portion of mozzarella dippers! But has anyone ever won the top prizes? And how do you play McDonald’s Monopoly?
To the delight of fast-food fans all over the UK, McDonald’s 2021 Monopoly promotion launched on Wednesday, 25 August.
The popular game was cancelled last year due to Covid concerns – the first time in 15 years the promotion hasn’t run.
The promotion will run until 5 October, 2021 and any entrants must be over 16 to claim a prize.
This year, Maccies are even offering 1,000 McDonald’s Gold Cards. These exclusive cards allow the holder to get a free meal every week for a whole year.
How do you play McDonald’s Monopoly?
Unlike the boardgame, you don’t need to argue about who gets to be the Scottie dog, who gets the ship and who’s stuck with the boot.
You can play McDonald’s Monopoly simply by dining out at McDonalds. The packaging for each of your food items will have a number of stickers on the front.
Peel off the stickers to reveal what McDonald’s properties you’ve got, or ‘instant win’ prizes (usually food items like a Big Mac or an Apple Pie). You then collect properties of the same colour to build up to one of the big wins.
This year McDonald’s is also rolling out an online game, where even more prizes are on offer. The stickers will have codes on that allow you to play online.
There’s no tips on how to win, other than by eating lots of McDonald’s food!
I’m lovin’ it, but what are the prizes?
The top prizes are those that you have to collect to win – by saving your stickers and hopefully getting a number in the same colour.
The full list of prizes ranges all the way from a small fruit bag, to the coveted McDonald’s Gold Card to a whopping £100,000.
This year’s top prizes are:
- £100,000 cash
- Ibiza holiday (or UK getaway)
- £1000 to spend at AO.com on home entertainment
- Lay-Z-Spa hot tub
- £500 shopping spree at Misguided or Mennace
- Buyagift experience
- £100 JD Sports gift card
- A McDonald’s Gold card
- Sky Mobile phone and one year contract

Has anyone ever won the top prizes?
McDonald’s has been hounded by rumours that no-one actually gets to take home the biggest prizes.
However, McDonald’s has enthusiastically confirmed that there have been lots of winners who claimed the top prizes.
McDonald’s said: “Over the years McDonald’s U.K. has given millions of prizes to millions of people as part of the Monopoly promotion.
“These have included everything from McDonald’s food prizes and shopping vouchers, to wonderful weekend breaks and spanking new sets of headphones.
“In 2018, a whopping 8,006,175 prizes were claimed, including 6 Mini Coopers, three £100k prizes, two £25k prizes and a Universal Holiday. Not bad, ey?”
