Pizza Hut Changed This Formula for the First Time in Decades

Though there are many places that can serve you pizza these days, few of them are as well known or as distinct as Pizza Hut. For nearly 40 years, their pan pizza has become a staple of takeout orders and pizza parties, so instantly recognizable that the sight of it alone can bring its taste immediately to mind.

Well, take everything you knew about Pizza Hut’s pan pizza and chuck it up onto the roof Walter White-style. Because for the first time in almost four decades, the Hut has outpizzaed itself and decided to reformulate its pan pizza.

According to a press release, the new and improved pan pizza is the result of a “three-year culinary innovation journey” that “combin[ed] art, science and culinary expertise to bring the taste of the Original Pan® Pizza to the next level.” That involved reformulating the pan itself in order to more perfectly bake a golden brown crust. Not only has the crust been re-engineered for pizza perfection, but what goes on it has changed as well: Pizza Hut posits that its new blend of sauce and cheese will “enhance the flavor and complement the chewy center.”

The natural question to ask here is why Pizza Hut felt the need to shake things up: “Re-inventing our most iconic Pizza Hut menu item is just another way we're showing our customers that as a company we're about the pizza first and will never become complacent when it comes to taste,” Marianne Radley, the Hut’s Chief Brand Officer, said in the press release.

And for those who don’t think the differences as described are that big of a deal, well, you’re wrong. “We've put a lot of energy and love into refining this beloved pizza,” said Penny Shaheen, Senior Director of Culinary Innovation and Strategy at Pizza Hut “[we] are eager for customers to taste the unbelievable difference first-hand.”

This earth-shattering new take on pan pizza is available at Pizza Huts across America as we speak. And for a limited time, you can get a large version of it with two toppings for $7.99 when you order online. May it be everything you ever dreamed a pan pizza could be.
