For every Festive Menu purchase from Subway up until Christmas, the restaurant chain will donate £1 to FareShare – enough to help the charity redistribute the equivalent of four meals to those in need.
The “Sub You” campaign, which launches today (Tuesday) and runs until December 24, is expected to help provide up to 800,000 meals through FareShare.
And the campaign is backed by ITV Loose Women panellist, Judi Love – who visited a Subway branch to find out what it takes to make the perfect Sub.
A video shows comedian Judi surprising customers as she got behind the counter to help Subway staff prepare orders.
Judi said: “We all know it’s an incredibly tough time for many at the moment, which is why it’s more important than ever to support those committed to making a difference and feeding the festive spirit this winter.
“Subway’s partnership with FareShare and their “Sub You” initiative is doing just that. So, get yourself down to your local store and help us share the love this festive season.”
A poll of 2,000 people, conducted for FareShare, revealed that two-thirds (65 percent) are eating out less as a result of the cost-of-living crisis, with 21 percent even cutting down on healthy meals in a bid to make savings.
But over half of those polled are also looking to help out those in need in smaller, everyday ways – with 26 percent agreeing the cost-of-living crisis has made them more likely to offer to help others who they feel might be struggling.
And 50 percent who are feeling the impact of rising food prices and energy inflation say they have become more appreciative and grateful for what they do have.
Now, thanks to Subway’s “Sub You” initiative, Brits can help others while indulging themselves – at no extra cost.
The “Sub You” campaign also includes an initiative to support Brits with deals and promotions on healthy and nutritious meals.
Lindsay Boswell, CEO at FareShare, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Subway, whose fundraising will help get more good-to-eat surplus food, that may otherwise go to waste, to our network of nearly 9,500 charities and community groups.
“By purchasing from Subway’s Festive Menu, you’ll be able to help over a million people across the UK, who are being impacted by the cost-of-living crisis, get access to the food they need.”
Angelina Gosal, Head of Marketing UK & Ireland at Subway, added: “We’re really excited to be launching our Sub You campaign with Judi Love, and to raise awareness of the offers that Subway® is offering this festive season.
“At Subway, we’re committed to supporting local communities, and our partnerships with FareShare and the CC Foundation are our chance to help those who might need it across the UK and Ireland this winter.”
Subway’s “Sub You” will see more than 30 deals and promotions launch over the coming month, bringing some festive cheer amid the doom and gloom.
The deals kickstart with Subway’s App-vent activation on their app, which includes 12 cost-saving offers until December 27th – with Subway offering its iconic Footlong from only £3.99 this week.
