This is important, as older people run more obesity related risks than younger overweight people. The study tested a low-carb vs high fat diet without restricting calories.
Those on the study ate the plans for eight week.
The low-carb diet was the most effective for weight loss.
The leader author of the study Amy Goss, Ph.D., RDN: said: “After the eight-week intervention, despite the recommendation to consume a weight-maintaining diet, the group consuming the very low-carbohydrate diet lost more weight and total fat mass than the control diet group.”
They also recommended older Britons add whole eggs to their diet.
Eggs played an important part in the VLCD diet.
Participants in this diet group consumed at least three per day.
The study found eating more eggs improved their health significantly.
Goss said: “While eggs were a part of this study, we can’t conclude that our findings are a result of daily egg consumption; but I think what we can conclude is that whole eggs can be incorporated into the diet in a healthful way without adversely impacting blood cholesterol in older adults.

What are the best foods to burn fat on a low carb diet?
Fitness expert Daniel Herman explained: “A keto or ketogenic diet is a very low-carb diet (not no carb), which turns the body into a fat-burning machine.
“It has many proven benefits for weight loss, health and performance, as millions of people have experienced already.”
He recommends meat and diary and eggs.
“The higher fat the better,” he added, “butter is good, high-fat cheese is fine and high-fat yoghurts can be had in moderation. Heavy cream is good for cooking.
“Eat eggs any way, e.g. boiled, fried in butter, scrambled or as omelettes, whatever you want.”
Like adding eggs to your diet can boost your health, so can drinking ginger tea, it’s been claimed.
David Weiner, Training Experience Manager at Al-based fitness and lifestyle coaching app Freeletics has shared with Express.co.uk why.
He says: “Ginger tea is one of the most popular ways to consume ginger. Other than using it as a remedy for illness or a sore throat, there are countless other health benefits of adding ginger tea into your diet.
“Ginger not only adds delicious flavour, but it is also full of incredible vitamins and nutrients.”
David explains how these vitamins and nutrients include B3 and B6, iron, potassium and vitamin C.
Vitamins are important for slimmers as they can provide your body with sufficient energy as well as helping to reduce fatigue to help you keep focused and motivated.
