Hugh Bonneville, 57, is best known for his role as Robert Crawley in the ITV historical drama series Downton Abbey. He has stunned fans over the years with his incredible weight loss transformation by switching up his diet and incorporating exercise into his routine.

Hugh appeared on Wednesday evening’s episode of BBC’s The One Show where he spoke with Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.

However viewers on Twitter couldn’t help but notice how slim the actor looked while being interviewed virtually.

A number of people even explained how they found him unrecognisable.

One person said: “Hugh Bonneville on #TheOneShow…tell me I wasn’t the only one who didn’t recognise him?”

Another tweeted: “Hugh on The One Show…How different does he look?”

“Hugh looks so different, I honestly didn’t even recognise him, his face is so much slimmer,” a third wrote.

Over the years, Hugh has been very open about his fitness regime.

He shared how he previously slimmed down by over a stone by changing his diet plan and introducing more exercise into his daily life.

He told the Telegraph in 2009: “Little and often, [his trainer] told me, and no carbs in the evening.”

Low carbohydrate diets can be very effective for weight loss according to Healthline.

Cutting out a large amount of carbs tends to reduce your appetite and cause automatic weight loss, or weight loss without the need to count calories.

While it is important to still incorporate a healthy amount of carbs into your daily diet, these too can be swapped for healthier alternatives like brown rice and brown bread.

The actor swapped large portions for eating at more regular intervals throughout the day and he cut back on high carb foods.

This includes white bread, white pasta, crisps as well as sweet treats like cake and biscuits.

Carb heavy foods also tend to contain a lot of calories and so when swapped for lower calorie alternatives, it means slimmers can eat more.

Hugh also regularly updates his social media with his fitness regime.

He recently shared a picture of him running on the South Downs, while other snaps show him walking his dog.

Exercise is a crucial part of losing weight as it helps to burn more calories.

Exercising like running can also help to boost the body’s metabolic rate, which could see the body burning more calories each day, even at rest.

The NHS recommends around one hour a day of moderate intensity exercise each day across the week.

This should also be paired with several short sessions of very vigorous intensity activity like riding a bike fast, running or aerobics.
