Michael Mackie, 63, struggled with his weight like many Britons do.

• Mid-morning is a sugar-free biscuit and a coffee
• Lunch time is mostly soup with some Ryvita and a coffee
• Throughout the day I’m having a few glasses of water as well
• My main meal in the evening consist of either meat or fish with some veg or in the summer, has been salad followed by perhaps a poached piece of fruit and a Weight Watchers yogurt
• Last thing at night it’s always been a hot chocolate (light) with a sugar-free biscuit
