No matter what the motivation is for losing weight, most people can shape up by eating less and moving more. Instead of drastically cutting back, eating more often could actually help slimmers lose weight and eat less overall. An expert explained how snacking throughout the day can help slimmers feel more satisfied and promote weight loss. Instead of going hungry, some people could shape up by making sure they eat healthy snacks in-between meals.
Healthy, low-calorie snacks in between meals can be a really useful way to help you to manage your weight.
By eating more often, dieters can reduce cravings and keep their diet on track, Terri-Ann Nunns, founder of Terri-Ann’s Diet Plans, explained.
“Healthy, low-calorie snacks in between meals can be a really useful way to help you to manage your weight,” she said.
“By doing this you are providing your body with a steady flow of energy throughout the day which should reduce cravings that could lead to you making unhealthier choices.”
This doesn’t mean snacking on some sweet treats and opting for a low-calorie and low-carb snack will give the best results.
“Of course the number of snacks and the calorie content of these will differ depending upon how many calories you are eating as part of your daily intake,” Terri-Ann added.
“My advice would be to stick to snacks of under 100 calories if you are trying to lose weight.”
Low-calorie snacks could include a small banana, box of raisins, fresh grapes or a yogurt pot.
For a savoury option, slimmers can much on olives, carrot sticks and hummus or soft cheese on cucumber slices.
So, how does it work?
Snacking on protein-rich high-fibre snacks can help promote weight loss, according to a study published on the US National Library of Medicine.
In the study, 17 people were given snacks that were high in protein and slow-digesting carbs for a four week period.
During this time, the dieters lost an average of 2.2 pounds by adding in the snacks.
However, this could be dependent on the person as some studies have shown those who are at normal weight or obese could in fact gain weight by adding these in.
One study of 36 men noticed a significant increase in liver and belly fat when they added in snacks between meals.
As well as diet and exercise, some people drink apple cider vinegar to help speed up their weight loss.
Studies have shown this can help boost the metabolism meaning the body burns fat more quickly.
Following a structured diet plan, like the keto diet, can be a good way to control the food intake.
