Homemade BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 lg Onion, Minced
  2. 4 cloves Garlic, Minced
  3. 1 cup Bourbon
  4. 2 cups Ketchup
  5. 1/3 cup Vinegar
  6. 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
  7. 1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  8. 3/4 cup Molasses
  9. 1/2 tsp Pepper
  10. 1/2 tsp Salt
  11. 1/4 cup Tomato Paste
  12. 2-3 tbsp Liquid Smoke
  13. 1/3 tsp Hot Sauce

Steps

  1. Over med-high heat combine onion, garlic & bourbon in 3 qt saucepan and saute for 10 minutes or until onions are translucent.

  2. Remove from heat and light mixture on fire to burn off alcohol. Flame should last approximately 20-30 seconds.

  3. Add all remaining ingredients to saucepan and return to heat.

  4. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Stir constantly for 20 minutes and then remove from heat.

  5. Strain sauce through medium to fine strainer to remove onion, garlic & any other solids in the sauce.

  6. Allow sauce to cool to room temperature then use or bottle and refrigerate.
