Old Fashioned Raisin Pie (Grandma Blanton)

My mother used to make these when I was young and still living at home around the holidays. Just a few weeks before she died I had asked her how to make them and she spout out the ingredients from memory. And they were just almost the same as this recipe. She was a pro when it came to making homemade pies.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups Raisins
  2. 2 cups water
  3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  4. 2 tbs. cornstarch
  5. 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  6. 1/4 tsp. salt
  7. 1 tbs. vinegar
  8. 1 tbs. butter or margarine
  9. Pastry for double crust pie, unbaked

Steps

  1. Combine raisins and water and boil for 5 minutes.

  2. Blend sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and salt.

  3. Add to raisin liquid and cook, stirring until clear.
    Remove from heat.

  4. Stir in vinegar and butter. Cool slightly. Turn into pastry lined pan.

  5. Cover with top pastry or lattice strips.
Bake at 425 for about 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
