Taco Meat Tejano style

This is how I make taco meat.I use ideas from both my mom (chili powder) and my mother in law.Julio’s seasoning is my secret ingredient for all of my Tejano food.

Ingredients

  1. 1 lb ground meat
  2. 1/2 an onion chopped
  3. 2 tsp finely chopped garlic
  4. 1/2 tsp salt
  5. 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  6. 1/2 tsp Julio’s Seasoning
  7. 1/4 tsp black pepper
  8. 2 tsp chili powder
  9. 5 Tbsp oil
  10. 10 corn tortillas
  11. Assorted toppings

Steps

  1. Brown the ground beef over medium heat.

  2. Add the onion and chopped garlic and cook until translucent.

  3. Add all the seasoning and lower the heat.

  4. While the meat simmers, start cutting up any vegetable toppings that you want on your tacos, and heat up the oil.

  5. When the oil gets to a slow boil add a corn tortilla. Cook on one side until it’s soft, turn it over and cook until that side is soft (about 1 minute on each side). File the tortilla in half and keep cooking each side until it’s as soft or crispy as you want.

  6. Rest the cooked tortilla on a paper towel while you are cooking all the tortillas you will need. Then start filling them up. Toppings you might like are chopped onion, chopped lettuce or cabbage, chopped tomato, sliced avocado, chopped peppers, grated cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
