Whole Wheat Toutons


  1. 5 cups whole wheat flour
  2. 3 cups water (warm)
  3. 1.5 teaspoons yeast
  4. 1/3 cup brown sugar or honey
  5. 3 tablespoons butter
  6. 2 cups whole wheat flour


  1. Add warm water to bowl and add 1/3 cup of brown sugar and yeast.

  2. Mix 5 cups of flour with yeast and let rise for 1 to 1.5h hour.

  3. Cut small sections ans fry in pan on low heat for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. Add butter and 2 cups of whole wheat flour and mix.

  5. Beat flour while adding extra flour until doughy consistancy. Roughly 5-10 minutes.

  6. Store half in a plastic tub and freeze for later.

  7. Optional: sprinkle wheat germ or flaxseed onto dough or onto cooked toutons cut in half and spread with butter.
