Nobody wants to come home after a hard day’s work and spend hours slaving away in the kitchen making dinner.

But it’s possible to whip up a tasty meal in no time at all. This week, why not try BBC Good Food’s quick sausage bolognese?

The team at BBC Good Food said: “Pasta, sauce, and sausages, what could be a better combination? The sausage meat adds great flavour to a simple dish.”

This recipe serves four people so is perfect for a family dinner. But quantities can easily be halved or doubled depending on party size.

It’s a two step recipe which takes just five minutes to prep and 15 minutes to cook, so you won’t be holed up in the kitchen for long. Plus, there are very few ingredients, meaning it won’t break the bank.

Without adding any oil to the pan, crumble in the sausage meat and fennel seeds. Fry for a few minutes until the sausages are golden and the fat is released. Ensure you stir well to break up the meat. Add the mushrooms and fry for another few minutes until they have started to soften. If you’re using the wine, stir this in and bubble for one minute. Next, pour in the tomato sauce and heat until it bubbles.

2. At the same time, boil the penne. When it’s cooked to your taste, drain the pasta and tip into the tomato sauce. Mix well until the sausages and pasta are completely coated. Plate up the pasta for yourself and your guests, and finish with a sprinkle of parmesan.

If you’re feeling hungry, serve with a side salad, garlic bread or chunks of crusty bread to mop up the sauce.
