Jacket potatoes would be nothing without their earthy outer layer which is why many people spend hours cooking them.

But according to one TikTok chef, all that’s really needed is a spare 10 minutes to achieve the perfect texture.

Getting the core white and fluffy with a crunchy skin is as easy as changing the way the potato is cut, according to content creator Josh Elkin (@thejoshelkin).

In a video posted on his TikTok account, the self-taught home chef revealed his handy diagonal-scoring hack for quick baked spuds.

He said that the first step is to wash and pierce the potato ahead of cooking.

Josh claimed that the vegetable should be pierced five times on one side with a fork before being flipped over.

The same should be repeated on the other side to allow for even cooking and encourage steam to escape while heated.

According to the chef, the raw spud should then be microwaved for five minutes at full power, then removed from the appliance and sliced in half.
