Sainsbury’s recalls popular cheese as it ‘may contain Salmonella’

Sainsbury’s issued an “important safety warning” and recalled its Mexican Style Chilli Cheddar due to health fears. The supermarket explained that the decision to recall the popular product has been taken “as a precautionary measure” because of the possible presence of Salmonella.

Supermarket Sainsbury’s warned shoppers who have the Sainsbury’s Mexican Style Chilli Cheddar at home: “Do not consume this product with these best before dates.”

The retailer explained that the cheese “may contain Salmonella”. Symptoms caused by Salmonella include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

The cheese has been removed from the shelves and Sainsbury’s asked customers to return it to the store for a full refund if they have bought the product.

The Food Standards Agency added: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it.” Shoppers can call Sainsbury’s customer care line on 0800 636 262 or visit help.sainsburys.co.uk if they have any concerns.
