A very common piece of advice given to slimmers is to eat more fruit and veg.
However, according to one leading expert, there are some fruits that might actually be slowing down your weight loss goals.
While all fruit is healthier than a processed pastry or bag of crisps, Dr Michael Mosley suggested that dieters are wise when it comes to which fruits they snack on.
Dr Michael Mosley designed The Fast 800, a weight loss programme which three approaches, The Very Fast 800, The New 5:2 and Way of Life.
The official Fast 800 website explained: “All three approaches follow the principles of a moderately low-carb, Mediterranean-style diet.

“You can switch easily between each approach as your needs change – some people start with The Very Fast 800 (our 800 calorie diet) if they have a significant amount of weight to lose, or to kick start weight loss, while others start with The New 5:2 or The Way of Life for gradual weight loss or to improve their overall health.”
In keeping with the principles of the Mediterranean-style diet, Dr Michael listed some foods slimmers should stock up on – plus others to steer clear of.
The expert advised those who want to lose weight to “avoid sweet fruits”.

He said: “Enjoy berries, apples and pears, which have less sugar than sweet, tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and melon.”
Slimmers are also encouraged to cut right down on sugar, sugary treats and sugary drinks.
A top tip for those who can’t resist dessert: Break off a few small pieces of dark chocolate and tuck into that when you’re craving something sweet.

Breakfast cereals laden with sugar have also got to go, as well as starchy, processed foods. Choose full fat products over low fat in order to stay full for longer.
